day 71 (persistence)
i had underrated what they meant when they said “the only thing that matters is to survive.”
i gained more instagram followers in the last 24 hours than i did in the past 71 days combined.1
before this i was almost demotivated from seeing my growth plateau. then, out of nowhere, i had one video get 1m views. that shit was not planned or expected. i had no idea how to react.. (i was very overwhelmed ngl. i had to do a proper journal session to clear my head.)
the thing is, you can’t know when it will happen. it could be tomorrow. or the day after that. or 3 months from now. just know the day will come, and all you can do until that day is work.
i don’t have this shit figured out. but i’ve stayed consistent for a couple months now without much feedback. what made me continue was remembering that the goal is to be consistent, not to get X amount of followers. systems, not goals. this has helped me soooo much.2
the goal is to do so much volume that it’s practically impossible to fail. if you did the thing every day for 10 years, what are the chances you didn’t achieve your goal? basically zero, right?
it’s so trite yet so fucking true: all that matters is to survive. just stay in the game.3
i gained 80-something followers. which might seem like goofy numbers to you (if so, fuck u, respectfully). i don’t even know 80 people irl so it actually is kinda cool lol.
scott adams’s “systems not goals” framework.
i need to beware not to expect heroic motion going forward. now i know it’s possible and i can do it. that doesn’t mean i should expect unrealistic results daily. low expectations, high standards. low expectations for results, high standards on the work.
